As a founder with years of experience sourcing furniture from Foshan, I want to share practical advice for customers traveling here from India for furniture buying trips. Foshan is the heart of China’s furniture industry, and having the right packing strategy will make your visit comfortable and productive, so you can focus on selecting the best pieces without distractions.

Foshan summers (May to September) are hot and humid, often with heavy rains. When you’re out visiting factories and showrooms all day, lightweight, breathable clothing made of cotton or moisture-wicking fabric is essential. Always carry a sturdy umbrella or rain jacket since sudden downpours can disrupt your schedule. Waterproof shoes or sandals will keep you comfortable moving between locations. Don’t forget sunscreen, a wide-brim hat, and mosquito repellent, especially if you visit outdoor markets or distribution yards. A thin cardigan is also useful for indoor air conditioning, which tends to be quite strong in commercial spaces.

Autumn (October to November) offers much more pleasant weather, with cooler temperatures and less rain. It’s the best season for long showroom visits or factory tours. Pack layers, like a light jacket over long sleeves, and comfortable walking shoes. An umbrella remains handy for unexpected showers, but overall you’ll face fewer weather interruptions.

In Foshan’s mild winters (December to February), temperatures are cooler but manageable. Light sweaters, hoodies, and long pants will keep you comfortable, especially for early mornings or late evenings when temperatures drop. Closed-toe shoes are preferable for factory visits, where safety and cleanliness matter. Carry a compact umbrella as winter can still bring occasional rain.

Spring (March to April) transitions from cool to warm and humid. I recommend keeping a mix of t-shirts, long sleeves, and a light raincoat on hand. Comfortable sneakers are ideal for moving between appointments efficiently.

Besides clothing, bring essential items like a travel adapter for Chinese outlets, power banks to keep your devices charged through long days, and translation or map apps to help communicate easily with suppliers.

If you’re coming from India for furniture sourcing, the key is to pack smart and stay flexible. You want to spend your energy focused on finding the best materials, designs, and partners—not battling weather or discomfort. When your packing matches Foshan’s weather and your busy schedule, your sourcing trip will be efficient, comfortable, and successful. This preparation has made a real difference in my own journeys, and I’m confident it will for you too.
